Collaborative training on the road

Over the past two weeks, Émilie L. Couture and Amélia Dalpé (RCSF-Québec) accompanied Méduline Chailloux from the Réseau québécois d’urgences pour les mammifères marins (RQUMM) on the road for a training tour. Part of continuous efforts to optimize data collection on marine mammals stranded on Québec’s shores, this training covered documentation and sampling of carcasses. Thanks to a partnership with the Merinov laboratories in Grande-Rivière (Gaspésie) and Cap-aux-Meules (Îles-de-la-Madeleine), members of the ZIP committees (Priority Intervention Zones) and a few RQUMM volunteers for the two concerned administrative regions were able to participate in necropsies of cetaceans and seals.

This summer, contact the RQUMM at 1-877-722-5346 if you observe a stranded marine mammal.
