Welcome back Morgan!

Morgan Kelley

This year the CWHC Western Northern has a returning summer student, Morgan Kelley, assisting with a variety of projects, including avian influenza and moose population studies in Western Canada.

After working for the CWHC in 2018, Morgan was accepted to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and has now completed the first year of her DVM program.  Previously, Morgan was an Honors Biology student at the University of Saskatchewan and performed an independent research project sequencing the mitochondrial genome of the winter tick, Dermacentor albipictus.  Specifically, the purpose of her project was to identify sites of variation within the mitogenome and determine whether or not sites of genetic variation related to variation in geographic distribution or host preference, thus contributing to future risk assessments of geographically expanding tick populations on both wildlife and domestic livestock.  In addition, Morgan has worked with a variety of wildlife species in both veterinary and non-veterinary settings.  She aspires to pursue a path in conservation medicine and population health upon completion of her DVM.
