We are pleased to announce that Megan Freedman has just started a residency program in zoological medicine at the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire of the Université de Montréal, in collaboration with the Zoo de Granby. This three-year program is the only training program in Canada compliant with the American College of Zoological Medicine. As part of her rotation in wildlife health and disease investigation, Megan will be involved with the CWHC – Quebec regional centre.

Megan studied at the Ontario Veterinary College, where she spent her summers at the Wildlife Health Centre at the Toronto Zoo, and where she first got involved in conservation medicine. After graduating in 2022, Megan completed three clinical internships, including specialty internships in avian and exotic medicine in New Jersey and in zoological medicine at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. Megan spent this past year working at the Zoo de Granby in a clinical and research role. Throughout these experiences, she has been involved in conservation medicine and research projects pertaining to several Canadian wildlife species, such as Vancouver Island marmots, Greater Sage-Grouse, Eastern Spiny Softshell Turtles, and more.

We would like to welcome Megan into the CWHC family and wish her well in her program.

Stéphane Lair, Regional Director for CWHC – Quebec
