Workshop on the management of marine mammal strandings

About 50 professionals participated in a workshop on the management of strandings of marine mammals organized by the CWHC. This workshop took place at the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire, Université de Montréal (FMV) on May 30th.

This workshop, which discussed various topics related to possible interventions for marine mammal stranding, will help refine the development of protocols used by stranding networks. Emphasis has been placed on the evaluation of stranded marine mammals to document harmful human interactions.

One of the afternoon workshops on post-mortem marine mammal examination given by Laura Bourque and Megan Jones of the CWHC Atlantic Regional Center based at the Atlantic Veterinary College of the University of Prince Edward-Island. A carcass of a harbour porpoise found dead in the Saguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Park was used for the demonstration.
