Summer student experience from the Atlantic CCWHC office

I didn’t know quite what to expect volunteering this summer for the CCWHC Atlantic, I was curious as to how they would use me.  Any assumptions of the monotony usually associated with early undergraduate student volunteer work were immediately expelled, as the first day on the job I was in north lake harbor assisting in a Minke whale necropsy.  Since then I have had the opportunity to observe and actively assist in many necropsies, as well as help with a study on Aleutian Mink Disease.

As an undergraduate student studying biology I was interested in volunteering for the CCWHC. Any expectations I may have had have been surpassed; I have been able to see first hand the study of animal pathology and have greatly developed my understanding of functional anatomy. This is has been a great summer volunteer experience.
