CCWHC graduate student studying disease of Canadian crows
Anil W. Kalupahana is a PhD student originally from Sri Lanka. He began his research at the Atlantic Veterinary College in January 2010 under the co-supervision of Drs Fred Kibenge and Scott McBurney. After graduating as a veterinarian in 1994 he worked as a Veterinary Research Officer in Sri Lanka. He obtained his M.Sc. at Anglia University, United Kingdom in 2004 and returned to his alma mater, the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka where he has been attached to the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science.
Anil’s research involves characterization of viruses isolated from crows in eastern Canada. His research program’s long term goal is to increase our understanding about whether these viruses are possibly pathogenic for commercial poultry. Upon completion of his program, he will return to Sri Lanka with knowledge of methods of virus detection and research techniques.
