Since there are bats found in Inverness I assume you do not need a sample from Dundee?

My husband and I have a summer property in Fordview, Inverness Co. (East Margaree Road) and on two occasions in August we spotted a couple of bats flying around our deck. Such a small number of sightings compared to other years. We have a bat box, but we were reluctant to put it up in case it might contribute to the spread of WNS. This is a very sad situation.

      Hi Joanne,
Although it is very sad to see the spread of the disease and hear people’s stories about not seeing them as often as they once did, putting up bat boxes is one of the best ways we can help bats right now! We want to give bats as many options for summer roosting as possible. Don’t be discouraged if you do not see bats use the box within the first couple of years though, as it may take a while for the bats to find it. Some helpful tips for the best placement of a bat box can be found here: https://www.batcon.org/pdfs/bathouses/InstallingYourBatHouseWoodenPostSteel%20Pole.pdf

Thanks again for your observation and be sure to keep an eye out for these furry friends in the future!
